The industry of sugar in Pakistan is the industry that is second largest industry which is agro based industry. Pakistan’s sugar industry comprises of 81 sugar mills which are having crushing capacity nearly 6.2 million tons annually. The farming of sugar cane and the manufacturing of the sugar cane contributes to the national exchequer drastically in the form of different and various levies, excises and taxes.  The manufacturing and the by-products of the sugar cane have contributed extensively towards the resources of foreign exchange with the help of import substitution.

As far as the location of the sugar industry of Pakistan is concerned it is mostly located in the areas that are rural. These areas are rural areas of Punjab and Sindh.  Where as, in NWFP the production from the sugar industry is in very small percentage.  In the past times the province Punjab to a certain extent is dependent on the sindh. But as time passes the improvements and establishments of few units that are large scale units in Punjab has made the province of Punjab self sufficient in the goods and services. The production of the sugar is seasonal commotion.
The research has shown that the sugar mills operate for 150 days only on an average.  And productions of sugar supplies are made throughout the whole year.  There are much modern advancement made in the sugar industry of Pakistan and this modernism has now greater capacity of crushing then before.
The progress of variety of sugar cane work is conceded out at the research center of Pakistan’s government namely Government Research Institute which is established at city Faisalabad in province of Punjab, city Hyderabad and city Thatta in the province of Sindh and Mardan city in the province of KPK.

Sugar industry of Pakistan has some impacts of quality varieties. Few impacts are like it reduces the manufacturing cost of the sugar. The losses for milling and the processing are minimized and controlled. The consumption of energy for the operation of the different factories is reduced considerably. It also increases the recoveries in a factory overall. It also increases the production of the sugar and the efficiency level of sugar production. Moreover sugar industries are increased with the increase in total production of the sugar.
For the betterment in sugar industry there are some suggestions which should be considered for the sake of propagation of the higher sugar varieties. The growers must have varieties at a single time to manage the harvesting system concerning their maturity period.  The special seed nurseries should be maintained so that we can safe guard the different diseases infection. The sugar mills should have the seed farms for multiplication of the seed under the supervision of the trained research staff. Not only this, the sugar mills should also allocate the budget for the seed multiplication usually. To promote the varieties of sugar   the payment methods and strategies should be linked up with the contents of the varieties.
